We put the most care into what's buried
Once a wall is up or a path is laid, nobody sees the base, the footing or what's in the mortar again. Those are the parts I fuss over most, because they decide how the work holds up. A good-looking brick wall on a skimpy footing is like a nice house on a cracked slab. It looks fine for a while, and then it doesn't.
So we dig out to firm ground, pack the base in layers, and size the footing for the wall it has to carry. Mortar gets mixed for the brick it's going into, since a mix that's harder than an old brick can crack the brick instead of the joint. It takes a bit longer than skipping steps, and I'm happy to walk you through it if you call (707) 398-2147.
